Importance of humidification

Many problems in the air are caused by too low or excessive humidity. Because we are isolating our buildings better and more and we regulate the heating, we are increasingly seeing that the humidity goes too far down. The ideal humidity is between 40 and 60%. If the humidity is not between this value, it is advisable to do something about this.

Dry air can have multiple hazards such as: a dry throat, stimulus cough, dry skin, worsening of eczema, dry eyes, irritated airways, headache, fatigue, concentration problems, lowered immune system and a cold feeling. In addition, dry air also has a negative effect on wooden furniture, floors, wallpaper and on the plants in the building.

There are several humidifiers that you can use:

  • Steam evaporators : they use electricity to create steam that cools before it leaves the unit. However, there is still a small risk of skin burning and people should avoid the use of steam evaporators around children.
  • Ultrasonic humidifiers: instead of electricity, these units use vibrations to vaporize water.
  • Evaporators : these produce humidity by blowing air along evaporating water.
  • Fan humidifiers : these are generally child-friendly and use rotating discs instead of heat to vaporize water.

However, there are also a number of dangers to an air humidifier. For example, you should think of if the water pollutes, this is also in the moisture that is spread by the air. Nor is it desirable that the humidity should be too high. So it is important to keep up with the humidifier.

Below are some basic tips that are very important:

  • keep track of humidity
  • refresh the water in the humidifier regularly
  • clean the humidifier regularly
  • change all filters as indicated
  • use only distilled or purified water that does not contain minerals
  • be careful when using an air humidifier around children
